Logistics Summary : Today's logistics status is nothing special
KOREA Logistics summary(화물연대 파업 및 철도, 운수 연대 파업예정)
1. Reasons for the strike
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' public transport union cargo union headquarters announced that it will go on a general strike from midnight on the 24th. The reason why the cargo union,
which went on a general strike once again in June, went on strike again is due to conflicts with the government and shippers over the "safe fare system."
The safety fare system, which has functioned as a de facto minimum wage in the freight transport industry for the past three years, was introduced as a sunset system and was set to end at the end of this year.
The government said it would extend the safety fare system for another three years, but the cargo alliance is demanding that the safety fare system sunset be abolished to permanently institutionalize and expand the applied items.
2. A way of the strike
25,000 members of the Korea Cargo Federation participated in the strike to block major ports including Pyeongtaek Port, Busan Port, and Gwangyang Port and logistics bases such as Uiwang Inland Container Base (ICD)
3. Strike response of port and the public institution
Port authorities are busy preparing measures for workplaces that are feared to disrupt logistics due to strikes, such as setting up temporary landfills and pulling out emergency supplies in advance.
Major ports such as Busan Port, Incheon Port, and Gwangyang Port are expected to have little impact on the strike right now as the container dock unit rate (capacity to stack and store containers) is still around 60-70% as of the 23rd. However, port authorities,
such as the Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Agency and the Port Authority, plan to secure as many temporary container equipment facilities outside the pier as possible because the device rate could rise sharply if the strike is prolonged.
The police plan to strictly respond to illegal activities that interfere with logistics transportation.
The police plan to actively respond to obstruction of transportation of non-union members' vehicles, occupation of cars, assault of transportation drivers, damage to vehicles, and blockade of workplaces at ports and workplaces.
If they participate in illegal activities, they will consider criminal punishment as well as administrative disposition of licenses such as suspension and cancellation of driver's licenses.
